Abia governor rejects plans to build cattle colonies

- The governor said the state doesn't have enough land to build colonies
As controversy surrounding herdsmen attacks continue in the country, the Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has rejected the federal government's plan to build cattle colonies for herdsmen in the state.

Ikpeazu, in a statement released and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, said the state doesn't have enough land and it would be unfair to take land from the people to build colonies for hherdsmen

The statement read: "We reject any plan to establish cattle colonies for herdsmen in Abia state.
“We don’t have enough land for our agricultural activities and our people want more land.
“Giving away any part of Abia land as a colony to herdsmen, wherever they may be from, will be most unjust and unfair treatment to Abia state and her people who are largely farmers.”
“So the best thing I think we should do is to reject such plans so that those behind it will know that Abia state is not party to it.”

converged in Enugu on Thursday, January 11, over the menace constituted by suspected herdsmen across the country with a decision that the Miyetti Allah cattle breeders be declared terrorists.
The conference of south-east, south-west, south-south and north-central political leaders was attended by former governors Cornelius Adebayo, Ikedi Ohakim, Jonah Jang and Olusegun Mimiko; former Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Olu Falae, son of former President Nnamdi Azikiwe, Uwakwe Azikiwe; Banji Akintoye, a professor, and former minister, Femi Fani-Kayo
